About NJGA
The New Jersey Green Association (NJGA) is a non-profit organization that functions much like a
"green business chamber of commerce," pulling together companies, towns, and schools of all shapes
and sizes that are committed to improving and sustaining the environment within the state of New
Jersey. NJGA member organizations are working on a number of environmental initiatives, including
energy conservation, clean energy, recycling, green manufacturing, water use reduction,
transportation, brownfields, sustainability, and supply chain.
Our Association gives start-up companies access to other members who can assist them in growing
their businesses. We also have a deep group of support companies - financing, legal consultation,
accounting, website design, insurance, and real estate - who are available to our members at
discounted rates. And, for established firms, NJGA offers idea exchanges on a range of green
topics. Most importantly, NJGA offers a variety of networking opportunities for our members,
which connects them to other green organizations in a wide variety of other fields.

New Jersey’s Environment
According to Forbes.com, New Jersey is the 7th greenest state. That is an impressive ranking for our state with lots of room for
improvement. New Jersey scores high in a lot of areas such as water quality and energy efficiency policies, in addition to its inclusion
in a regional effort to curb greenhouse gases. However, our air quality is very poor in several areas, and our energy consumption is very
high. The Camden/Philadelphia area has experienced AQI levels above 100 for periods greater than one month, which is dangerous to a
person’s health. Furthermore, the majority of the energy in New Jersey comes from nuclear power plants. The rest comes from gas and coal
power plants which is not entirely green, though the gas is harnessed from landfills, and municipal solid waste is also used. The New
Jersey coastline is ideal for win power, and is being looked into as a new source of clean, renewable energy. Outside of this, New Jersey
has only one major hydroelectric plant.
